Expert Focuses on Hurricane Simulation Techniques During Fall Meeting; Members Discuss Other Important Industry Issues The AAMA Southeast Region Fall Meeting was held in Orlando, Fla. on August 5-6, and it was the perfect venue for a demonstration of state-of-the-art hurricane wind testing, being the home of the University of Florida Wind Engineering Lab in nearby Gainesville. Dr. Forrest Masters (University of Florida) demonstrated the 130 mph hurricane simulator, while dousing the mock-up house test subject with the equivalent of an eight-inch-per-hour rainfall. Use of the simulator for installation testing and for impacting windows with real world projectiles such as roof tiles and three-tab shingles was also demonstrated.Read the full article. Florida Product Approval Program Changes and Frequent Validation Mistakes Mo Madani, the Senior Technical Manager of the Florida Product Approval System, provided an update during the AAMA Southeast Region Fall Meeting regarding changes mandated by Florida legislation HB 663 – Building Safety – that was signed into law this past May. The five-part presentation covered the organization of the Florida Building Commission (FBC) and the Building Codes and Standards Office, a review of the current Product Approval (PA) process and the number of certification, evaluation, testing, accreditation, quality assurance and validation entities participating, as well as the new application review process set forth in HB 663, 2010 Florida Building Code revision updates and a summary of proposed code changes affecting fenestration products.
