AAMA Releases Courses on Codes and Energy
AAMA recently released education courses on code requirements, energy efficiency and thermal performance, as well as skylights and daylighting, as part of the association's FenestrationMasters program. This is the fourth group of FenestrationMasters courses released by AAMA.May 1, 2013
AAMA Announces Extension of NAFS Certification
AAMA announced the release of an interim procedural guide that will provide a documented, optional process to extend current, unexpired AAMA product certification to any edition of AAMA/WDMA(/CSA) 101/I.S.2(/A440) for a period of two years for products that have had no changes. The procedural guide, AAMA 106-13, Interim Procedural Guide for Extension of NAFS Certification is effective as of May 1.April 30, 2013

Registration is Open for the 2013 Summer Conference
Registration is open for the AAMA Summer Conference, to be held in Rosemont, IL, June 9-12. AAMA members can register online by May 31 to receive a $50 discount. The conference will feature updates on pertinent industry topics, as well as a special presentation from keynote speaker Stephen Gold on the outlook for the U.S. manufacturing industry. AAMA Releases First North American Multipoint Locking Hardware Standard for Side-Hinged Doors
AAMA recently published the first North America standard for multipoint locking hardware for side-hinged door systems. AAMA 909-13, Voluntary Specification for Cycle Performance and Testing of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Multipoint Locking Hardware establishes a minimum performance requirement and test procedure to evaluate the durability of multipoint locking door hardware.April 12, 2013

AAMA, as a co-founder of the Window Safety Task Force, encourages everyone to recognize the importance of practicing window safety by designating one week each spring to promoting safety and education. National Window Safety Week, April 7-13, is used as a time to remind all households that open windows can be dangerous for young children who are not properly supervised. This is especially important with the arrival of warm weather when windows are opened to provide ventilation.

AAMA and WDMA Release 2012/2013 Industry Review and Forecast
AAMA and WDMA have jointly released the AAMA/WDMA 2012/2013 U.S. Industry Statistical Review and Forecast. This report delivers timely information on window, door and skylight market trends and product relationships. Historic data for 2006 through 2012 and forecast data for 2013 through 2015 are also included in the report. Vinyl Windows: An Impressive Growth History
AAMA and the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) have sponsored the Study of the U.S. Market for Windows, Doors and Skylights since 1982. As part of this study, each year AAMA and WDMA publish the U.S. Industry Statistical Review and Forecast. AAMA recently released an updated standard for the installation of residential replacement windows without the removal of existing frames. AAMA 2410-13, Standard Practice for Installation of Windows with an Exterior Flush Fin Over an Existing Window Frame covers the installation of retrofit windows in detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses not more than three stories above-grade in height.

When Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, decided to build the Herman N. Hipp Hall, a new academic facility, it decided to go for a U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold rating. HOUZE Advanced Building Science, a Houston-based technology integration and commercialization company, along with the City of Houston, has unveiled the first-of-its-kind affordable zero-energy homes in the U. S. (the "ZE" in HOUZE stands for Zero Energy). This fall, the company completed two of 30 planned zero-energy homes. The houses, available in four styles that blend with their historic north Houston neighborhood, range from 1,250 to 1,800 sq. ft. and are priced from $145,000 to $235,000.

Vinyl Material Council Web Page Offers Wide Range of Content and Resources
AAMA's Vinyl Material Council (VMC) members include manufacturers of windows, doors, skylights and related building products and their component and material suppliers. Collectively the VMC advocates for the development of voluntary technical standards, extrusion, profile certification, marketing, green and sustainable fenestration products and educational programs.November 30, 2012
For more than 40 years, vinyl has made strides to become the material of choice for window construction in North America. In 2011, vinyl windows represented more than 65 percent of the total window supply to the residential, non-residential and manufactured housing markets, according to the AAMA/WDMA Study of the U.S. Market for Windows, Doors and Skylights. In regards to the non-residential window market alone, the study notes that 46 percent of the market used vinyl windows.
