Door Task Groups Near Completion on Industry Documents
April 27, 2012Sponsored by

At the 75th Annual Conference in Naples, FL, the Door Council and related task groups met to resolve ballot comments and discuss critical issues.
The Door Handle Set Task Group members, who are developing a new voluntary specification addressing the performance of handle sets used with multipoint hardware on side-hinged doors, completed resolving the comments resulting from the Hardware Committee ballot. Editorial revisions will be incorporated into the draft and then balloted to the Architectural and Residential Products Groups. Ballot comments will be reviewed by way of a conference call. The task group anticipates the document will be completed by summer 2012.
The Door Hardware Task Group reviewed ballot comments and made substantive changes to the document draft, Voluntary Specification for Cycle Performance and Testing of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Multipoint Locking Hardware. The changes will be reviewed by way of a conference call, and the document will be re-balloted to the task group.
The Door Council recommended the Door Hardware Task Group hold a conference call to review language regarding ADA compliance for exterior terrace doors and sliding patio doors that limits door operating force (opening/pulling) to five pounds. BHMA has prepared a recommendation on ICC/ANSI A11.7, Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, that is to be provided to the Door Hardware Task Group for review.
Also, during the meeting, the Door Council reactivated the Door Vertical Loading Task Group to update AAMA 925-07, Specification for Determining the Vertical Loading Resistance of Side-Hinged Door Leaves. This group is scheduled to hold their first meeting at the AAMA Summer Conference in June.
