NAFS Survey Closes November 18
October 31, 2011The AAMA NAFS Committee, co-chaired by Ray Garries (JELD-WEN) and Steve Fronek (Apogee), is seeking broad-based member input on goals and methods for update and maintenance of the flagship standard: AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440, the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS).
About three years ago, the Joint Document Management Group (JDMG), in conjunction with AAMA task groups and committees, re-formatted the approximately 200-page NAFS specification into more specific product class sections. These newly re-formatted sections include a general overview, R and LC Class Windows and Sliding Doors, Side Hinged Entrance Doors, CW and AW Class Windows, Sliding Glass Doors and Terrace Doors, Skylights, and Roof Windows and TDDs. Each section additionally includes requirements for both the United States and Canada.
The document was reformatted for clarity and ease of use.
Member input is needed on potential changes for the next NAFS edition scheduled for 2017. Feedback is critical to developing a successful update to the standard; therefore, the deadline to complete the survey has been extended to November 18.
Survey results received through September 23 were presented at the 2011 Fall Conference during the NAFS Committee meeting on September 26. Participation in this survey will help guide the efforts of all AAMA councils, committees and task groups involved in any NAFS-related activities.
To submit your vote on the survey, visit the Members Only section of the AAMA website. For additional questions, please contact Ken Brenden, AAMA's Technical Services Manager.
