August 30, 2011

Sponsored by

At the AAMA National Summer Conference, held in Minneapolis, MN, many of the Door Council task groups and committees held meetings. The task groups reviewed documents, additionally they reviewed ballot responses and discussed other Council activities in order to continue in the development processes. Visit the Door Council’s home page for more information.

Door Bottom Weatherseal Task Group
The Door Bottom Weatherseal Task Group continued its goal of establishing performance requirements for the testing and verification of door sweeps to be used in AAMA certified exterior side-hinged door systems. The group reviewed results from the Product Group balloting of AAMA 703-11, Voluntary Specifications for Non-Integral Door Bottom Weatherseals. All comments were resolved, and the document was published on July 7.

Door Cycle Task Group
The Door Cycle Task Group reviewed AAMA 920-11, Specification for Operating Cycle Performance of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Systems, which was published on May 5. This task group was disbanded pending any additional assignments, given that the scope of the group is now complete. We would like to thank Chair Larry Livermore for his continued efforts in directing the task group’s efforts in creating AAMA 920.

Door Handle Set Task Group
During the Door Handle Set Task Group meeting, members discussed an initial ballot of the document, Voluntary Specification for Performance Testing of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Trim Sets. An initial ballot is expected to be complete by the Fall Conference in September.

Door Hardware Task Group
The Door Hardware Task Group reviewed ballot responses for AAMA XXX-XX, Voluntary Specification for Cycle Performance and Testing of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Multipoint Locking Hardware and Trim and identified necessary revisions to the draft. The group is intending to distribute a re-ballot of architectural and residential product group ballot soon.

A request was also made at the National Summer Conference that the Door Council reviews drawings for the Door Prep Committee template from BHMA A115 and to provide feedback. Numerous Door Council members provided responses, which were sent to BHMA and are currently being reviewed, thanks to the Council’s participation.
