Several Task Groups Complete Work at Annual Conference; New Task Groups Formed
April 27, 2012AAMA congratulates and thanks the several task groups and their members who finished work and disbanded at the 75th Annual Conference.
Anodic Finishes (AAMA 611) Task Group (Chair Andy Joswiak [Apogee Enterprises]) completed work on AAMA 611-12, Voluntary Specification for Anodized Architectural Aluminum, which describes test procedures and requirements for high performance (Class I) and commercial (Class II) architectural quality aluminum oxide coatings applied to aluminum extrusions and panels for architectural products. The specification is available for purchase from AAMA’s Publication Store.
APG Energy Course Task Group (Chair Doug Holmberg [Apogee Enterprises]) completed with development of the AIA-accredited, AAMA-approved course, "Energy and the Architectural Fenestration Industry." In addition to inclusion in AAMA’s Continuing Education Licensing Program, it will also be part of the FenestrationMasters™ curriculum.
CW-10-04 Review and Update Task Group (Chair Steve Wilkening [Apogee Enterprises]) completed their review of CW-10-12, Care and Handling of Architectural Aluminum from Shop to Site. The manual covers care, handling and maintenance of architectural aluminum products from mill, to fabricator, to job site, through project completion. The manual is available for purchase from AAMA’s Publication Store.
Field Testing Task Group (Co-Chair Scott Warner [Architectural Testing], Co-Chair Kim Flanary [Milgard]) recently completed AAMA 502-12, Voluntary Specification for Field Testing of Newly Installed Fenestration Products. The specification establishes the requirements for field test specimens, apparatus, sampling, test procedures and test reports to be used in verifying the air infiltration resistance performance and water penetration resistance performance of newly installed fenestration products. The specification is available for purchase from AAMA’s Publication Store.
Flashing Education Task Group (Chair Kim Flanary) developed material related to flashing and installation methods as part of the FenestrationMasters curriculum.
New Task Groups
Also during the Annual Conference, the following task groups were formed.
AMC PV Mounting System Feasibility Study Group (Chair Scott Condreay [Sapa Extrusions]) was formed to investigate photovoltaic mountings system applications.
AMC Anodic/Painted Finishes Task Group (Chair Andy Joswiak [Apogee Enterprises]) will be updating AAMA AFPA-91, Anodic Finishes/Painted Aluminum to include information that was removed from CW-10-12, Care and Handling of Architectural Aluminum from Shop to Site as appropriate.
Joint AAMA/IGMA/GANA Visual Quality Task Group was approved at the Annual Conference. Requests will be delivered to IGMA and GANA to establish this group to determine industry standards for visual quality for assembled multilayer and insulating flat glass products.
Door Vertical Loading (AAMA 925) Task Group (Chair Val Brushaber [Hurd Windows & Doors]) was reactivated to update AAMA 925-07, Specification for Determining the Vertical Loading Resistance of Side-Hinged Door Leaves.
GMC Education White Paper Task Group (Chair Michael Monaghan [Stern & Company]) will be working on the white paper, Understanding the Use of Glass Standards.
Sash Lock Standard Task Group (Chair Jason Annes [Ashland Hardware Systems]) was formed to develop an AAMA test method for the testing of sliding window locks.
AAMA 304 and 1506 Sub-Task Group (Chair Cristen Baca [Simonton]) was formed under the VMC Document Management Committee to update AAMA 304-07, Voluntary Specification for Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) Exterior Profiles Capped with ASA or ASA/PVC Blend and AAMA 1506-04, Voluntary Test Method for Laboratory Heat Build-Up Effects on Fenestration Products.
