Opening Thoughts from the Western Region BoardDecember 21, 2011
Kim Flanary (Milgard)
Western Region Board President
I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the AAMA Western Region Webinar on November 15, which proved to be an excellent vehicle for conveying the latest developments and fielding questions in two areas of major importance to our members: I-code referencing at the state level and marketing of green attributes to designers and specifiers. Summaries of the two presentations are available on the Western Region News page. Members may view these presentations in their entirety in the Members Only section of the AAMA website.
As 2011 draws to a close, it is not too early to mark your calendars for the 2012 Western Region Spring Meeting, to be held April 10-11, 2012, at the Embassy Suites Portland Airport Hotel in Portland, OR. There are already several confirmed topics and guest speakers. An update will be provided on Building Information Modeling (BIM) with a focus on fenestration from Doug Cook of Reed Construction Data. Also planned is an update on NFRC's Component Modeling Approach (CMA), specifically as it relates to the new ENERGY STAR® Independent Verification Program (IVP)), which involves verifying that the performance ratings of ENERGY STAR qualified and NFRC certified and labeled fenestration products sold in the market agree with those listed in the NFRC Certified Products Directory. In addition, we will receive the always popular perennial economic update from Chapman University’s Dr. Esmael Adibi.
The highlight of the event will feature a tour of Cardinal Glass Industries’ insulating glass plant in Hood River, OR, with plenty of time for questions and answers.
Visit the Western Region Spring Meeting page of the AAMA website for more details as they become available. In the meantime, best wishes for a profitable 2012.
