NAFS Committee Reviews 5th Ballot at AAMA Fall ConferenceSeptember 27, 2011
At AAMA’s 2011 National Fall Conference, the NAFS (North American Fenestration Standard) Committee met on Monday, September 26 to review the outcome of the fifth ballot of the 2011 draft of the AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 NAFS-North American Standard/Specifications for windows, doors, and skylights for the next edition, which will be published later this year. Co-chairs Ray Garries (JELD-WEN) and Steve Fronek (Apogee) directed the overall meeting.
Prior to the Fall Conference, the Joint Document Management Group (JDMG), consisting of industry representatives from AAMA, WDMA and CSA, held two conference calls on July 6 and September 14 to discuss the fifth ballot of NAFS that was issued to AAMA membership on July 15.
AAMA’s Technical Services Manager, Ken Brenden, provided the presentation and reported on the JDMG’s activities since the 2011 Summer Conference. Included in his presentation was a review of all comments submitted by AAMA members and what was resolved by the JDMG during the September conference call.
The ballot was sent out to 188 voting representatives, of which AAMA received 104 respondents. The ballot period closed on September 9, after a 15-day extension was granted. Only substantive changes from the 4th ballot were open for comment to the members.
Following the Fall Conference, a subsequent conference call has been scheduled for the week of October 3 to review possible editorial changes to Clause 4.1.1. and to discuss future group activities associated with JDMG, including the next edition of NAFS 2017 and the User’s Guide. Brenden also provided a timeline for the events moving forward.
