Upcoming Fall Conference to Feature U.S. Economic Outlook, Monitoring of State and National LegislationAugust 30, 2011
Registration is open for AAMA’s 2011 Fall Conference taking place September 25 - 28 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs, located in Palm Desert, CA, and will include a range of educational sessions and updates on various AAMA programs.
On Monday, September 26 the Opening General Session and Marketing Report (7:30 a.m.) will feature important conference topics, in addition to introducing new developments within the association and the industry. By attending this session, attendees will gather valuable information about meeting sessions to be sure to include in conference participation plans. Updates will also include information on the following marketing programs: FenestrationMasters™ training program, 2011 GlassBuild America show and the Certification Promotional Campaign.
Keynote Speaker – The U.S. Economic Outlook
This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Esmael Adibi, Director of the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research and Anderson Chair of Economic Analysis at Chapman University, will provide an update on the European debt crisis, the turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa and the federal and state budget deficits that are negatively impacting the current weak economic recovery. Dr. Adibi will discuss the current state of the national economy and present the forecast for 2011-2012, in which he addresses the following questions:
- Is the economy gaining traction or headed for another recession?
- What is the outlook for the job market?
- Residential market, are we at the bottom?
- What is the outlook for the commercial real estate market?
- What will happen to interest rates?
The Fall Conference will also feature a Supplier Product Display and Reception, where members will display new products and services. AAMA’s supplier members are encouraged to utilize this opportunity to display new products and services in an informal atmosphere, where they can interact with guests and provide further product-specific information.
Vinyl in Design
On Monday, September 26, an education program titled, “Vinyl in Design,” will be presented by The Vinyl Institute, which was designed to familiarize architects and designers with the range of solutions vinyl provides for today’s and tomorrow’s design challenges. This program will be presented by Terry Murphy from The Vinyl Institute. A general update will also be provided from The Vinyl Institute later in the afternoon.
Regulatory Affairs Committee
On Tuesday, September 27, the Regulatory Affairs Committee is responsible for monitoring State and National legislation and government rule making that impacts AAMA members and the window and door industry. This is a report-only committee with recommended actions approved by the general membership and assigned to the appropriate Council(s), committee(s), Board or staff. Key regulatory and legislative issues of interest at the national level include the Lead Remodeling and Repair Rule (EPA), 25C tax credits (ARRA), Regulatory Reform, ENERGY STAR (DOE and EPA), and China Aluminum extrusion anti-dumping tariffs (DOC and ITC).

VMC Special Presentation – CELP and Vinyl Profile Certification
On Tuesday, September 27, AAMA’s Marketing Manager, Angela Dickson, will be discussing the enrollment process of the Continuing Education Licensing Program (CELP) which allows members to deliver AIA-accredited, AAMA-approved educational courses to architects. This session will also feature a presentation of the most recent VMC course to be added to the AAMA education offering – “Exterior Vinyl Profiles of Windows, Doors and Skylights: Customer Confidence Through Certifying Vinyl Profiles.
