Door Council Continues Work on Three New and One Revised Standard
August 30, 2010A new AAMA document entitled, Voluntary Specification for Performance Testing of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Trim Sets, is currently in development by the Door Handle Set Task Group (Chair Matt Taylor [Hoppe N.A.]). This document will establish test procedures and performance criteria for evaluating handle sets designed for use with multipoint hardware on side hinged doors. It will focus on handle sets designed for use with multipoint hardware. Other hardware performance standards do not address these products specifically. In addition, the test procedures in this standard allow for handle sets to be tested independently from the multipoint hardware. Other hardware performance standards typically test handle sets in conjunction with the locking hardware. The document is expected to be completed by October 2010.
A new AAMA document entitled, Voluntary Specification for Non-Integral Door Bottom Weatherseals, is currently in development by the Door Bottom Weatherseal Task Group (Chair Mark Fortun [Endura]). This specification will establish minimum performance requirements for non-integral door bottom weatherseals. This standard is not applicable to door bottom weatherseals that are integrally attached to door panels. This specification is applicable for door bottom weatherseals manufactured from any material or combination. Although this standard establishes minimum performance criteria for door bottom weatherseals, no installed performance is implied for any bottom weatherseal meeting the requirements of this standard. The document is currently out for membership ballot.
A new AAMA document entitled, Voluntary Specification for Cycle Performance and Testing of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Multipoint Locking Hardware and Trim, is currently in development by the Door Hardware Task Group (Chair Jan Huml [G-U Hardware]). The purpose of this specification is to establish a minimum performance requirement and test procedure to evaluate the durability of multipoint locking door hardware. This specification establishes a method for component testing multipoint locking hardware for side hinged exterior door systems. A successful membership ballot is complete.
AAMA 920-XX, Specification for Operating Cycle Performance of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Systems, is currently being revised by the Door Cycle Task Group (Chair Larry Livermore [Architectural Testing]). The purpose of this specification is to establish a standard test method and set of performance criteria for side-hinged exterior door systems and their associated hardware under accelerated operating conditions. The revised document is currently out for membership ballot.
