Data Needed for Next Version of COMFEN

July 30, 2010

The Center for Sustainable Building Research - University of Minnesota has been tasked by the team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to gather framing information for the next version of COMFEN. COMFEN is a tool designed to support the systematic evaluation of alternative fenestration systems for project-specific commercial building applications. In the next version, the framing information will not be editable, and LBNL is looking to gather enough existing manufacturer test data so that realistic “default” framing U-Values (per foot of length) can be programmed into the software.

The lab is interested in obtaining values for all material types (aluminum, fiberglass, wood, steel, vinyl, etc.). Additionally, they are looking for values for fully captured and structurally glazed systems of both thermally improved and those with a true thermal barrier.

If you would like to contribute data or if you would like further information, please contact Kerry Haglund, with the Center for Sustainable Building Research at khaglund@umn.edu
