AAMA Releases Updated Report on Structural Performance of Composite Thermal Barrier Systems

AAMA recently released an updated technical information report addressing the most commonly used composite thermal barrier systems. The 72-page AAMA TIR-A8-16, Structural Performance of Composite Thermal Barrier Framing Systems, was last updated in 2008 and now includes several new figures and instructions specific to testing dual cavities. Updated software and a user guide are forthcoming to aid users in understanding information contained in this report.

Milestone AAMA 80th Annual Conference Registration Opens, Event Re-Structured; 2017-18 Events Set

AAMA has opened registration for the AAMA 80th Annual Conference, to be held February 12-15, 2017 in Phoenix, AZ, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort. This is the first-ever conference AAMA is hosting with the association's new conference restructuring plans put in place and will also feature the annual awards banquet during this milestone year. A special rate is guaranteed through January 26, and attendees are encouraged to book before this date.

Case Study: After Fallen Tree Damages Cabin, New Fiberglass-Exterior Windows Withstand Elements

When a cabin suffered damage from a fallen tree along the Merced River Yosemite National Park area in California, the owners decided to rebuild it as a guest home for visiting friends and family. They identified their desired look as an English cottage style and brought in designer Jeanie Bartholomew to help with this vision. A civil engineer was also added to ensure the style could support the design.

The speakers at AAMA's 80th Annual Conference in February in Phoenix, will address general business topics, such as communication, as well as industry-specific ones, such as Building Information Modeling and Environmental Product Declarations. At the AAMA Fall Conference, the FMC Marketing Committee reviewed the plans of the Window Safety Task Force initiative and heard an update on the popular FMC finishes trilogy of documents. Document work will continue at the AAMA 80th Annual Conference in Phoenix in February.

In case you haven't heard yet, Fundamentals of Fenestration is AAMA's latest educational offering -- and we are pretty excited about it! The one-hour online course provides an introductory look at the fenestration industry. It takes you through basic terminology and standards for windows, doors and skylights, covering both residential and light commercial products, as well as commercial and architectural applications.

What I Learned About the EPA in 2016

AAMA Certification Manager Jason Seals told me I would be "drinking from the fire hose" during my first year at AAMA. He was right. However, I have had inspired and patient AAMA members and staff to help me absorb the avalanche of information. EPA activity was and continues to be a major contributor to my regulatory learning curve.
